We are looking for a Legal Counsel for the European Hematology Association (EHA). EHA is an international organisation that promotes excellence in patient care, research, and education in hematology. As Legal Counsel, you will be responsible for providing legal support to all departments in EHA, including EHA’s board: a fundamental role in which you operate as a liaison for all departments and external legal advisers. Over de functie

As Legal Counsel, you are responsible for providing legal support to all departments in EHA, including EHA’s Board. You monitor and/or advise on all legal matters, including commercial contracts, privacy law, and good governance. Thereby, you liaise with relevant departments to ensure that legal risks have been identified and appropriate courses of action have been taken. You provide and interpret legal information, conduct training, and inform staff on appropriate legal requirements. In this role, you report directly to the Head of Operations. Furthermore, you will be fulfilling the following tasks and responsibilities:

  • Review, advise and draft policy on the legal implications of internal policies and procedures, and ensure that they comply with all statutory or legal requirements
  • Review the progress of litigation and liaise with and manage external lawyers and other legal advisers. By doing so, you identify local needs and develop efficient, resource-smart solutions
  • Formulate legal compliance checklists for all the departments, to be used for the purpose of ensuring that all information required is provided accordingly
  • Provide legal protection and risk management advice to management, especially on contract management and proposed mitigation strategies
  • Draft, review and provide legal advice on MOUs, Contracts, and tender documents
  • Develop and implement procedures for contract management and administration in compliance with EHA’s policy
  • Negotiate, review and draft documentation for business transactions and prepare and advise on the necessary checklist to be adopted to ensure information is submitted on time
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly (compliance) reports for management meetings

We are looking for a Legal counsel with a problem-solving attitude and a ‘can do’ mentality. You are proactive, highly engaged, and analytical. You are a strong team player who communicates clearly with relevant stakeholders. Furthermore, you bring:

  • A master’s degree in Dutch Law, preferably Contract law
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in law firms or multinational organisations (preferably NGO)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with laws dealing with commercial/contract administration, privacy law and labour laws
  • Fully operational in regulatory law and Dutch law, and working knowledge of European Laws (preferably including pharmaceutical laws and regulations)
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and diplomatic skills
  • Excellent oral and written command of English
